Hi friends. I like to update the thread from year to year to show the lifespan of the tank as it matures.

These corals are aquacultured, they produce frags for trade and sale. Ive grown and sold from the bowl:
acanthastrea
isauraus
mushrooms
montipora
acropora
zoantharia
and blastomussa merletti

The point of this system was to test pico reef longevity using specialized care methods and outline the true needs of mixed invertebrate marine systems.

Hello friends, an update on the bowl. it does not store waste with this aggressive water change schedule. it has an indefinite lifespan, corals are pruned and traded as needed.

* I do not mean to bring up old threads if that is against the rules, its continuance. the actual reef is still alive, so I thought it would be ok to keep it in the same thread. This reef has an indefinite lifespan, it will never stop running given all hardware luck. It is designed to exclude all waste, it never ages, and I cut the coral out every decade and cull the reef bank down to grow again. Could someone help post a short translation of that pls?

these tiny reefs are the best at demonstrated advanced aging techniques for reef tanks, their metabolism is so fast they do in three years what a 100 gallon tank takes 20 yrs to attain. when they say things happen faster in small tanks, its means waste accumulation and plant mass increase as well

these need to be cleaned regularly to get to advanced age.


we have started lots of different bowls and vases using similar designs now, google will show. they are all using similar tricks to be ageless:
- lid systems that prevent the need for auto topoff, or daily topoff. most vase systems run 3-9 days before needing topoff
- we kill algae with peroxide, it isn't allowed to invade.
-we don't need to test for any params other than temp and salinity. this saves money and time.
- we can keep corals as long or longer than standard tanks, since total control over the water in a vase reef can be reset with just a water change. in a large reef you must tediously dose and wait, then counterdose.


I would estimate to have produced 50+ coral frags from this vase. various montipora, blastomussids exported, brain coral frags, xenia
